Bidders Shortlisted for Romania
Reactors © 2006 The Associated Press CONSTANTA, Romania Romania's state-owned nuclear energy group Nuclearoelectrica said Friday that 13 companies have been shortlisted to bid for the right to build and operate two new nuclear reactors in Cernavoda. Nuclearoelectrica spokeswoman Mihaela Stiopol said the 13 companies will now make binding offers and then negotiations will continue separately to choose the winning bid, with the deal to be then submitted for approval to the Romanian government. Stiopol added that a
winner could be selected by the end of next month. Nuclearoelectrica currently operates one reactor and is set to open a new one next year. The two new reactors in Cernavoda, 150 kilometers (90 miles) east of Bucharest, are expected to be operational in 2012 or 2013 and the deal is estimated by analysts to be worth more than euro2 billion (US$2.5 billion).
