Thanks for confirming Peter. Disabling the knob may be an acceptable
workaround for 6.1, since for now I just need access to it for expression
linking.

Yeah, it was bug 11953 - adding support for a read-only String knob, it
went into 6.3 and 6.2, but not 6.1.
