Ah, yes, that makes sense. We had the same issue with Mari's plug-in that uses OpenImageIO: we needed to link that plug-in to everything that OIIO dynamically linked to as well, or it wouldn't find all the symbols it needed. Sounds like you're on the right track :)

So turns out the houdini libs are properly linked. They themselves link
against other libs and this is where it breaks. The RPATH does not get
inherited i belive. So basically instead of compiling it only against
the standard houdini libs i need to link against EVERY lib in houdini to
make sure this problem (in some gzip lib ) is gone!
