I am not sure if there is a way to use a geoSelect node to decides the
vertices to emit from.  Thought that would be a good idea.  You should
email it to support as a feature request.

As a work around though.  A b&w texture map on geometry which can be used
to emit textures from certain parts of the geometry.  In the
particleEmitter you can change the "rate channel" to any b&w channel.
 White pixels will emit, black will not.
