Is it possible to provide any more info on how a 3rd party can implement
licensing within a plugin? I want to have a look at the very least
locking the use of a plugin to a specific site, not really interested in
floating licences or anything particularly complicated.

Can't really make much sense of this. How does the system ID work.
'This is a 32-bit value that is unique for each customer site'. I check
'$this_system_id' here and get 0 as the result. I'm not even sure how
this is meant to work!
