these are my opintions

We are using RenderPal here. Currently I think it is a bad option for a pure linux house, because you will have to run an extra windows box for the server and the controllers in wine. Yet the Clients are linux, but some advanced feature were not supported when I was trying last time (like idle shutdown). They are doing a major rewrite right now to support all OS correctly. So if you can wait a while the price is unbeatable (approx. 2000$ for site license, for this price you get about 20 clients of deadline)

Smedge: I hated it when we were using it at university. Was an old version and I heared it has imporved much since.

Tractor, I talked to the main developmer at siggraph 2010 and there should be a 2.0 coming soon. 1.0 Has the main features and they seem really good and it scales very well, but feature wise it was not what you would expect from a package like qube!...

Dr. Q, has it been in active development? Seems kind of dead.

Have also a look at Arsenal Suite. Its mainly the render manager Blur wrote, afaik Dr. D is currently using and maintaining it. Looks good.

Hey everyone,
Hope this isn’t considered inappropriate list spam, but I’m in search
some outside opinions.
We’re considering switching farm management packages (currently on
Rush), and I’m trying to get a feel for what (commercially available)
solutions other shops are currently using and if anyone has any opinions
on any of them. I realize these lists may not be the place to get a lot
of that kind of information, but I figure it’s worth a shot.
The packages I’ve been researching thus far are Qube!, Smedge, Tractor,
RenderPal, and DrQueue. I’m pretty experienced with Deadline, but at
this point it’s seeming a less viable option due to its .NET/IronPython
roots (we’re primarily Linux). If anyone is using or knows of any other
major players, I’d love to hear about them as well.
Thanks,
-Nathan
