I'm wanting to find out if there is an awesome reason for some of the super huge inconsistencies in how Nuke handles it's nodes and their knobs, specifically channel knobs.

A simple example would be the Shuffle node. It has 4 channel knobs on itself and all of them are set as NOT visible even though they're visible. Another would be on just about any node that has accepts a mask. The ColorCorrect has several channel/channelmask knobs that are set to hidden, but somehow effect the visible channel knobs.

Consistency here would make tool development much easier.
