Is it possible you're mixing different Quicktime and/or language versions of QT/OS? I remember I had a problem once with the Photo-JPEG codec, because Apple was using different spellings for different languages and/or versions (can't remember exactly), so the name of the codec couldn't be found on another machine. On one machine it was called "Photo-JPEG" and on the other "Foto-JPEG". Compare the workstation and the render machine, maybe you have this same problem.
