Hi,

Have you looked at afanasy?

Small decription : http://cgru.sourceforge.net/afanasy/doc/afanasy.html
Download : http://cgru.sourceforge.net/doc/downloads.html

It's cross platform and opensource.

It's a very open framework, not specific for any application really. There is already an implementation for Nuke but can be expanded with any kind of program which can run from the command line.

Nuke : http://cgru.sourceforge.net/afanasy/plugins/nuke/doc/afanasy.html

It might be a little hard to setup initially, but it can be heavily customized. It has a python module which can be used for generating the jobs for the farm and a python module for interacting with the job list.

It's not for everyone, but IMO the backend is quite solid and can be used for any kind of job control.

We're currently using it inhouse for controlling a media encoder backend and I've contributed a few things to the python module for controlling jobs. In the future we plan to replace our current Royal Render setup with afanasy.

Hey everyone,
Hope this isn’t considered inappropriate list spam, but I’m in search
some outside opinions.
We’re considering switching farm management packages (currently on
Rush), and I’m trying to get a feel for what (commercially available)
solutions other shops are currently using and if anyone has any opinions
on any of them. I realize these lists may not be the place to get a lot
of that kind of information, but I figure it’s worth a shot.
The packages I’ve been researching thus far are Qube!, Smedge, Tractor,
RenderPal, and DrQueue. I’m pretty experienced with Deadline, but at
this point it’s seeming a less viable option due to its .NET/IronPython
roots (we’re primarily Linux). If anyone is using or knows of any other
major players, I’d love to hear about them as well.
Thanks,
-Nathan
