I think we need 2.1.
So it may be an issue with vmware still using an ogl 1.x driver. I thought newer versions of vmware added support for 2.x though.
For Windows guests, I think it supports up to DX9 and OGL 3 (as does Virtual Box FWIW, but Linux guests seem to only support 2.0 for the server version.
