probably not very useful to solve your problem, but i've
been running nuke on a 2008 macpro with 4870 (osx 10.6.8)
for quite a while and didnt see any issue with any recent
version of nuke.

i'm thinking of switching to another card too though as i'd
like to install blackmagic resolve and the card isnt
supported (getting memory errors).

probably going to try a 5770 because i've heard the cuda
cards are quite hot/noisy (well, funds are a problem too).

but i always thought the GPU is only used in nuke for the 3D
viewer, or am i mistaken here?

*Hello* Nuke UG,

I'm *upgrading* my ATI Radeon HD 4870 card for a new model in hopes it will work better with NukeX on my Mac Pro desktop and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had similar experiences on a Mac with any newer cards. As of right now, Nuke is crashing constantly...Foundry Support and I have
narrowed it down to a potential card issue....thus the upgrade.

I've been steered in many differing directions by post online and
sales/support personnel and the most suggested card is the FX 4000....but
I'm open to hearing what you have to say about it.

*My budget* is under $800.
