The Roto Brush in After Effects is the best, fastest and most "adaptive" i've seen.
- import footage,
- drag to new comp button,
- double click layer,
- select Roto Brush Tool,
- paint very loose stroke near inner boundary of image object,
- use Alt+stroke to remove selected background texture.
Hope this helps

As I find myself more and more reluctant to leave package to accomplish my goals I find myself wondering when we will have more robust painting tools in the roto paint node.

It would be wonderful to be able to finish an entire 2.5 D matte painting all in nuke without having to resort to Photoshop or the abysmal GIMP when working in linux. A few things would make that easier.

Custom brushes. Even a square brush that could be scaled in either dimension would do, and maybe the ability to squash and stretch the round brush.

Quick color switcher. Having two colors you can switch back and forth is surprisingly handy.

I am sure there is alot more that could be taken from the Mari brush tools without becoming too complex or resource heavy.

I'm crossing my fingers!
