Simply typing "####" also creates four digit frame padding.
Example:
filename.####.dpx
(renders a sequence starting with "filename.0000.dpx")

There are days where I'm rendering many versions (and stages) especially when
working with Paint strokes and shapes. And just having to use "#" makes life
easier. Just my take.
