Thanks Michael,
We also have a few Zim guys here. Are you currently working in SA too
(Durban?) or abroad?
Its interesting to know where all the African born VFX artists are
scattered :P

Hello everybody
Just wanted to let you all know there was a small featurette
released on vimeo - http://vimeo.com/49767597
We used nuke in the post-production process accompanied by a
Python based pipeline. The motion blur was done in post too using
ReelSmart. I made some custom lensflare, heathaze, etc nodes in
Nuke so we could cut out having to render those in the 3D package.
The film being rendered in stereo did add a level of complexity to
the plugin creation, compositing and pretty much everything else
involved. And besides the rest of the comp team and I roto-ing out
spots of specular on leaves that "broke stereo" the stereo
experience was pretty amazing.
For the rest of the film, to quote the Technical Supervisor (Sandy
Sutherland):
"We finished the movie completely in Softimage rendered with
Mental Ray, it was a huge learning experience but given the size
of Triggerfish, it would not have been possible to have done this
in any other software. ICE is used extensively to create various
assets and effects AND to fix stuff - it certainly was a Swiss
Army Knife for us.
Oh - the dust and smoke stuff was rendered with Fury from
Exocortex - feathers for Zam were done with MB_feathers which we
built a pipeline around to do caching to geometry for rendering."
