Hey,

Today at work I noticed that the Merge overlay will clamp your RGB values to
1.0 for some reasons I don't really get...

Overlay: Multiply if B<0>0.5

I'm trying to make my overlay operation so I can understand what is happening
here. I first went with expressions, cutting all values above 0.5 and multiply
and cut all below 0.5 and screen. I am doing that for R G and B. I am getting
something that looks a bit like a standard overlay. Except that it looks bad,
probably because there's no smoothing of 0.5 value. But there's no clamping.

So instead of expressions, I giving it a shot with keyers. Now I have something
pretty close to a normal overlay, without clamping, and that looks nice.

So my question is, what is exactly happening in an overlay operation ? And why
does it clamp my image ? It's definitely more complicated that that simple
formula....

I have been playing with my keyers settings for a while now and I'm close to
have the same result but there's still something missing. If anyone knows
something about this I'd love to understand what's really happening !

John
