Hey Frank,
we have looked for solutions for a while and looked at solutions like
http://www.resourcespace.org/. Finally we rolled our own solution with a
database backend using Qt and OpenImageIO/C++. Even if you were to do
this in Python expect at least 2 months full time working on this.
