Make sure you have exactly the right version of Mono installed. I had the same problem on osx and it turned out i was using the wrong Mono version. If you're not sure which version of Mono to us, check with the Thinkbox guys and/or their forum. Their support is great!

Problem being neither mac or linux versions will start up, try to start monitor 
in linux get a little bouncy icon for a bit and crashes out, mac o to start 
monitor and appears in the dock for a brief second and then gone…???

any tips or tricks, latest deadline install also…
