as far as i know, nuke processes every file as 32 bit float info from the 
moment it reads it, so i guess there's no way to tell the bit depth from within 
nuke. Maybe you could call an external commandline program via python in the 
read node tat tells you the bit depth? apart from that you can always check in 
an external app like xnview....i do see the benefit from getting this info 
directly within nuke though
