your C only exist in RGBA so it doesn't merge with A_side or B_side because in your C doesn't exist in those channels to merge with the A and B. Right? Get it? you would need to shuffle C into channels with the same names as A_side and B_side then it will merge at the plus. You can see this if you just take your 2 shuffles and put them both inline with C. Then it will do what you want it to.
