Hey Fredrik (and anyone else who may be interested) --
I asked The Foundry Support if there was any recommended way to do
this in Windows and here is their reply:

Hi Rich,
Thank you for contacting The Foundry Support.
To open NukeX when a script is double clicked you first have to create a
standard text file that has the Nuke.exe path and then add: --nukex %1
%2 %3
%4 %5 %6 %7
For example:
"C:\Program Files\Nuke7.0v8\Nuke7.0.exe" --nukex %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7
Then, change the extension of this text file form ".txt" to ".bat". Then,
right click on your Nuke script icon, select 'Open with' --> 'Choose
default
program...' and select the ".bat" file that you just created.
The Nuke script file icon will change after having done the above. You
then
need a '.bat' to '.exe' converter application to bring back the Nuke icon.
A good video instruction on how to do this can be found in the
following link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-7MmR2LM5A
I hope the above helps.
Regards,
-ed.

the video.

So, a batch file seems to be the way to go.
Some things are just easier on a Mac… ;^)
Thanks for all of the suggestions!

In regedit, have a look here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\
Find the extension (.nk) and investigate further... Maybe you'll find
the path to the executable and can add the --nukex option there?

Fredrik

The one 3rd party utility that looked promising was this one,
“Open with Arguments":

However, the last time it was updated was ten years ago! That
makes me just a bit nervous… ;^)
So, I will wait for an official reply from The Foundry before I
start experimenting!

Yeah I agree. From one of the answers it seems that they removed
the functionality "for" Vista, and onward. Vista really has no
friends, and it is not surprising.

Thanks for the links, Igor. I skimmed through the answers and
they all look a bit “iffy”… Some require third party programs
and others suggest command line registry editing. I think I’ll
shoot an email to The Foundry and see if they have a
recommended procedure. Seems like it should be simple, but
apparently it’s not!

Hi,
I have a dumb Windows question… How do I change the "Opens
with:” property for Nuke scripts to default to Nuke X?
The NukeX Desktop shortcut adds the ‘—nukex’ argument to the
executable name, as expected. However, I can see nowhere to
add that flag when I try to change it in the "Opens with:"
window. I tried just copying the shortcut into the \Program
Files\Nuke9.0v7\ folder and pointing to that, but it still
starts with the regular Nuke…
Anyone know how to do this…?
Thanks,
Rich
