I have a few gizmos where I sample color data from a user defined layer. I
haven't used them as much in the last years but every time I do I'm having
trouble to do the sampling (classic Nuke sampling black instead). If I
recall correctly this used to work without any problem in previous versions
(6-7). But I'm not completely sure about that.

I have been doing this by having the main stream just pass through the
node, and then in a separate stream (no output) I shuffle the selected
layer to rgb and then use a normal color knob to do the sampling. With this
setup I'm able to have the viewer connected to the node (viewing rgb) and
then by ctrl+alt sampling from the selected layer. See an example setup here
<http://pastebin.com/q1KkceCn>.

In the attached example it seems to work as expected. But I'm seeing lots
of glitches when using this in other scenarios like sampling the Position
output from a 3D scene setup. Sometimes it works though.

Is there a better way to sample a custom layer? I still want to use normal
rgb knobs to do the sampling. I tried having the sampling in the main
stream and then copy back the rgb after the sample but with the same
results.
