Andrew, I'm in the same situation as you in that I have recently started on projects with my own setup. I did see the Intel compute stick which is like a dongle for all intents and purposes, but is actually a full blown computer that can come preinstalled with Windows or Ubuntu so it could work as a portable license server, avoiding the issue of remote access.
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/compute-stick/intel-compute-stick.html Not ideal, but something to consider while the Foundry work out what they want to do with their licensing scheme to accommodate more freelancers.
