Sure as hell, I can elaborate. Left of all the indicators you get a new symbolic icon (pane-show-symbolic.svg - we have it in our base icon theme) which if you click on you get the legacy tray icons (the ones gnome-shell currently stack up in the right end on its hidden bottom bar ... well obviously we don't need notification to appear in our legacy tray for will have a separate extension for the notifications). When they are displayed the symbolic icon (pane-show-symbolic.svg) goes on the left of them and when you click it again they are hidden. That's all. :)
