Hey Fergal, I actually got really insightful questions after the talk. For example,
"If a machine is modeled after the brain, does it have the capacity for sentience?" "Are sparse distributed representations actually physical in the brain, or is it just a conceptual idea?" "If activations are propagating up the hierarchy, can it go the other way too? Can higher level concepts activate lower level concepts?" One guy in particular talked to me for 20 minutes, and we chatted all the way to the point where we were talking about intelligent machines as "the next stage of human evolution".
