Hi Guys,
As some of you know, I've decided to base much of my business on helping
customers use and learn about NuPIC and Grok. As part of that, I've
requisitioned one of my oldest and most loved URL's to build a website to
educate people and hopefully drive some business my way. The new site is at
http://inbits.com if you'd like to take a look.
Nicholas (who was commenting on the fact that he wants to "just get going"
with NuPIC) represents an important group of potential community members,
who are itching to engage with the theory and practical applications of
what we're doing, but they're not interested in the nuances of how the code
works. Similarly, Chetan's Neuroscience Club members are mostly interested
in these aspects. Importantly for me and anyone looking at business
opportunities (hat tip to Patrick!), potential customers will respond best
to a filtered stream of information coming out of the discussions. Correct
me if I'm wrong, Jeff, but you fall mainly into this group too!
So, to kill N birds with one stone, I'm going to see if I can write a
(hopefully daily, or close enough to it) series of blog posts on my site,
each one dealing with some topic related to NuPIC. There will be posts
which deal with the higher-level concepts and the detailed workings of both
theory and the software (categorised under "NuPIC") and then more technical
posts dealing with the "nerdy" details of coding, developing, building,
deploying and using the software ("NuPIC-dev").
The idea is to convert the discussions on the list (which can be difficult
to follow even using tools like the archive) into digestible articles which
can be read as a unit. Some of these might also be suitable for someone to
use on the NuPIC wiki - this would be welcome.
I'm also writing a book on NuPIC, which will update On Intelligence and
give non-technical people a gentle, packaged introduction to the whole
business. The itch I'm trying to scratch with the book is the constant
confusion of people close to me, who don't understand why I appear to have
become obsessed with this "brain stuff" and perhaps worry that I've joined
a cult.
I'll be posting up drafts of some parts of the book and would welcome your
feedback as I go along. The book will hopefully be ready for all of you to
give to your confused loved ones for Christmas ;)
I'll also be inviting people to guest blog on the site - Marek and his
crusade for an ever better codebase, Chetan and his evangelism, both spring
to mind as ideal guest bloggers. If you're interested in suggesting a topic
I can write about, or even better if you'd like to contribute something
yourself, I'd be delighted to hear about it.
