Hi, NuPIC is currently not tuned to image processing. We don't have any image encoders at this point. But that doesn't mean it's not possible.
You might want to look at Ian Danforth's previous hackathon demo of a visualization of how the spatial pooler works: http://numenta.org/blog/2013/11/06/2013-fall-hackathon-outcome.html#sp_viewer.
