I think you are describing exactly the temporal pooling (as in spatial
pooling - CLA predictions - temporal pooling) which Jeff introduced a while
ago (and there are plans have it implemented during summer, if im not
mistaken:) )
One suggested way for now is the CLA-with reset.
Other would be to use just spatial pooler and learn {1,2,3, seq1}, {3,2,1,
seq2} ...
Depends what kind of noise you want to handle..?
