I have modified the PATH variable. Can you force the build to check if
it works?

Below is "./configure" output for reference - 

....
checking for asciidoc... (cached) /usr/local/bin/asciidoc
checking for a2x... (cached) /usr/local/bin/a2x
....
build and install documentation: yes
only build specific documentation format:  html-single html-chunked
build and install the development files: no
....
