I did a quick check to see if the windows_port branch still compiles
on Ubuntu:

Looks like there may be a mismatched #ifdef, or something similar.
I understand that this branch is experimental; however, if you merge
from the trunk, I would recommend that you take that opportunity to
check that things still build on the usual configurations.
