strange.
neither Fred nor myself succeeded in reproducing this on ubuntu systems.
this vaguely resemble to empty "test" args.
the only thing I see in your config.log, around socklen tests, is:
/usr/lib/gcc/i686-linux-gnu/4.4.5/include/varargs.h:4: error: #error "GCC no
longer implements <varargs.h>."
/usr/lib/gcc/i686-linux-gnu/4.4.5/include/varargs.h:5: error: #error "Revise
your code to use <stdarg.h>."

I don't see a direct relation, but this is still to be investigated.

could you also please extract the offending lines from you configure file,
so that we can have a look at it?

cheers,
Arnaud
