You original post said that you were probably upgrading from 2.2.0. This makes a big difference. If you upgraded from 2.2.0-x to 2.2.1-2 then the regression is likely to be in the upstream package, while if you upgraded from 2.2.1-1 to 2.2.1-2 then the regression has to be in the Debian package itself.
