Have you tried using the DD/MM/YY format? On APC UPS models with USB ports, the 
date is stored as a packed integer, so if the firmware does support changing 
the date, it might expect it to be in the same format.

On the other hand, there has been discussion in the past that it is not 
possible to change this through the NUT interfaces, e.g.:
