Dear Charles and Roger, thank you for your help, once again I tried to google around but forgot to check launchpad's bugs. Indeed that was it and creating the script as mentioned in the second bug made it work: box was powered down, UPS was then shut down and it came back up along with the box a few secs later. Really smooth, thank you so much for such great piece of software.
And yes, I have a launchpad account and have marked the bugs as effecting me.
