You're probably running into the Fetcher2 issue that is affecting a number of
people (myself included). I opened an issue
(https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NUTCH-721) prior to the v1 release, but
no acknowledgement or follow-up as yet. Better to stick to 0.9 for a while I
think.
Hopefully the next release will be a step forward and not another regression.

I tried the latest RC and it seems to be downloading really slow compared to an
earlier development version. 5 to 10 times slower actually - 0.6 pages/second
per fetcher.
