Do you had tried to run the web crawl tutorial?
So skip the first intranet totoril section and try to other totorial below.
Please check if you have a similar problem. On linux and os x i never had seen a similar problem.

I think Win XP does have the limitation of maxdepth=1of open files.
But I run into exception, even if I crawl withthefor one web site.
