However implementing a plugin sounds promising, I'll just check out the existing ones and I will ask lots of questions if I don't see my way through :)

Sounds great, don't worry the license problem is one of ideas behind the nutch plugin architecture. :-)
Again I think you may see technical limits in the actually nutch architecture but I'm sure people
looking forward to hear your needs and will help to implement generalized nutch API's or extension points.
