My apologies if this is the second time I've sent this. Andrzej Bialecki wrote: > Please also don't forget that the trunk/ will soon be invaded by the

If we anticipate that people will make changes to the 0.7.x branch, doesn't that really mean that we've suddenly got two different products? Full-blown-mapred-Nutch, plus mini-Nutch. Or, if you like, Nutch Professional Edition, and Nutch Lite. I think this would be a fine way to go, essentially because I detect two different groups of Nutch users. There are those who want to crawl a sizeable portion of the World Wide Web, with a huge number of hosts. There are those who want a search engine that just crawls their own site (or possibly two or three sites). I am a member of the latter group. I have fewer than 200 000 pages in my index. I am completely not interested in map-reduce technology, but have different interests as far as possible Nutch features are concerned. I find Nutch to be a wonderful tool for my needs, and I'm very happy using it, even though I've modified it extensively for my use. I appreciate, however, that there are many, many users of Nutch with ambitions completely different from my own. Would it be worthwhile discussing the pros and cons of having two completely separate Nutch products? If it is, then now is probably the right time to do so.
