I use Redhat 9 with  kernel 2.4.20-30.9bigmem (for 8gb of ram)
java version "1.4.2_04"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_04-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_04-b05, mixed mode)

3ware raid with 12 disk of 160GB.
