Hi,
I am sorry I cannot give you precise answer but I was not doing any serious benchmarks. I do not have any numbers but some time ago I did some experiments and it looked like Opterons were faster. Comparision was done on indexing speed rather than searching and as far as I remember they have different disk controllers (SATA/SCSI) so it is not very meaningful test.
On stability - at the beginning I was really afraid about stability of Opteron box - it failed regulary - but after finding out it was a hardware problem (memory) - everything works without problems.
Regards, Piotr

I run on Opterons as well for my search nodes and they are much quicker (and more stable) than the intel's i ran on. I have *NEVER* had a stable JVM for more than 24 hours on abusy Xeon or anything with Hyperthreading enabled.
The opteron has a fast FSB, large cache and on a recent linux kernel the stability is second to none. Update 2 of the jre 1.5 also improved my stability.

Hi Piotr,
Do you have any search speed performance comparison data between the
64-bit JVM on an Opteron versus an Intel xeon with the 32-bit JVM? I'd appreciate any info you have. Thanks,
Chris
Search engine runs on Opteron boxes with Linux and JVM 1.5 (64-bit version). Web search engine is based on nutch code with some
