Realistically, I don't think we will ever see a Nutch 0.7.3 release. The core developers are not focused on it, and everyone else actively submitting code and ideas are basing this on trunk and the next Hadoop-based release. I think only the most critical of fixes would ever be applied to the 0.7.x release series, and that would most likely be something that stops basic functionality from working.
The fact you believe your setup might reach a few million documents should be reason enough to stay with the current stable release series (0.8.x).
