I'm using the bleeding edge (nightly build). The development model for nutch, according to Doug Cutting in this video: http://videolectures.net/iiia06_cutting_ense/ is such that the recent builds should all be functional.

I'm not sure whether I should using 0.9 or using the bleeding edge from svn trunk. Are breakages common on trunk?
