Looking through the user and dev mailing lists I see a couple responses
to searching across multiple indices (indices or indexes??). Back in
2006 was the last lucene's MultiSearcher was considered. Apparently,
then there was concern about using it. It has been improved and
finalized in the lucene-core since then, no?

Also, there is a improvement ticket (NUTCH-480) that can use different
indices. But it does not use MultiSearcher and looks like it searches
different indices not necessary combining those indicies as
MultiSearcher does.

My question is, has anybody built something like this into an
application?

If no, it looks like I'd have to change the private init method of
NutchBean to accomplish this. Could instantiating the searcher be
abstracted out of that method allowing NutchBean to be extended with a
different searcher or injected with different searcher(s)? And/or same
thing with IndexSearcher: the lucene-core searcher is instantiated in a
private init method.

Thanks for your time!
Chris
