How to add a field on nutch database

I need some advice about the databases used by Nutch-09.

I have searched all over but the information I found is inconclusive.

I need to create a field that I may edit and modify after indexing.

1. is it possible to add a field? when? before or after the 
crawling/indexing process? If so how?

2. is it possible to edit and modify the contents of a field after 
indexing? If so what software should be used?
