LinkDB and file:/// urls

It looks to me like that the LinkDB doesnt treat file:/// urls as 
anchors (rather just as external URLs). Is there anyway to change 
this behaviour, so that you can index an intranet site without using 
HTTP?

Most things are configurable, but there are so many interactions its 
difficult to tell which ones to tweak.
