OAM operations such as Ping, traceroute are functionally equivalent in almost all of the technologies (IP, Ethernet, MPLS, VPLS, TRILL). However, they tend to have different interfaces and implementations that make virtually impossible for a user to have a unified approach. The YANG model presented in the draft is intended to provide a common interface.
