I think the problem is the node id maps to a changeset id in the *closed*
repo.  So I guess you have to look at the dates to find the most recent
changeset for the closed repo at the time of the sync, get the id for that
changeset, and thus identify the correct tarball?

I'm thinking bi-weekly syncs are in fact the way to go; you can download 
closed binary tarballs from dlc.sun.com based on the build number pretty
easily.  Do others have objections to backing off to bi-weekly syncs?
