I don't like being negative, but I really can't see the point. Particularly now that there's stack overflow - the Rails guys there are brilliant and very kind to newbies, plus you can get help for everything else including shell programming and Linux/Mac config.
Plus the tons of useful stuff from Ryan Bates and the Rails Envy people and Peepcode and the Pragmatic people and confreaks and and and .... (I've never personally gone to the IRC but have never heard anything negative about the people there, either). It looks like a NIH wheel reinventing thing. That's just my opinion and if you feel I'm wrong then that's cool too. Remember the Rails is Love presentation? I think it's still true, personally.
