What's the issue you're having with installing it? I've got mysql  
server installed through macports, and installed mysql under 1.9.1  
easily.

> $ rvm use 1.9.1
> $ ruby -v
> ruby 1.9.1p243 (2009-07-16 revision 24175) [i386-darwin10.0.0]
> $ gem install mysql
> Building native extensions.  This could take a while...
