Students are notoriously hard to get to leave their confines, but I might detect the beginning of a sea change in comp sci at UM, David Workman and I did a Ruby session the other day that was well attended, and it seems that there are some syllabus etc changes that seem to encourage independence rather than mere syllabus following. I'll try to find out more and see if there would be any appetite for a drop in at mad lab anytime (I'm a bit hampered timewise, because my fervent desire is to bring things together to overwinter and hack remotely from a shack on the sea front 6000 miles away).
