# Who are we?
Unboxed has been around for just over a decade. We do Ruby on Rails web
development and early stage product development with an agile consulting
offering. As an example of the kind of thing that we do, you may have signed a
petition on parliament’s petition website (https://petition.parliament.uk) … we
built that!

# How are we changing the world?
Our people build solutions for customers trying to solve problems that matter
to society. We take our clients from an initial idea to a fully scaled digital
product whilst simultaneously coaching and training their teams ,leaving them
with a self-sustaining business. The work we do is in both the public and
private sectors

# How we roll
Expect to do these things: Learn. Innovate. Deliver. Share.

How we do that is by:
* Learning from the only UK based Rails core team member
* And working with one of the organisers of LRUG
* On interesting and varied project work
* We do co-location and collaboration with customers
* And offer 10 Innovation days per year
* With potential for equity in an Unboxed product
* We have a conference budget
* And do biannual reviews
* With a peer-to-peer mentoring programme and control over the areas that you
grow in
* We destress with weekly games, reflection and drinks
* And get visibility of the finances at a company social meeting
* Go on 25 holidays days a year (plus bank holiday allowance) - with an option
to flex

# Who are you?

You develop and maintain complex Ruby on Rails applications and make informed
decisions quickly, drawing from experience across a wide technical stack. You
involve your team in discussions on progress of stories as you turn designs and
wireframes into functional applications. Ideally you are experienced in
pioneering the way people work in an agile environment. You have strong
object-oriented design skills, experience in setting up and maintaining UNIX
systems and the use of JavaScript tools. You understand the benefits of TDD and
CI and are delivery-focussed.

# What happens next?

We ask candidates to complete a short coding exercise. This gives us an
opportunity to see their approach to solving problems and some of their code on
a clean build project. Although the problem is simple we specifically ask that
candidates treat it as a real feature request and provide work they would be
happy submitting to a client.

We will give feedback on a solution even if we decide not to progress with the
application. If we do progress the application, candidates will get the chance
to talk about the choices they made in their solution and respond to our
feedback. They will also pair with one of our developers on the solution to
either extend the functionality or to incorporate changes suggested by our
feedback.

>From there we do get a couple of other people involved to meet and talk
>through how we work and get a feel whether or not the candidate likes the idea
>of working with us. The process can be as quick or as slow as decided by the
>candidate.
